TL;DR
I went to Mexico City for a month last summer. I ate a ton, saw a lot, had an amazing time, but still did not check everything off my to-do list.
Now for the details...
COVID-19 has been a thing for a long time now. And this girl, who books trips on a whim to random destinations just because they’re affordable, started struggling with a life of remote work and Netflix binges from her NYC apartment. My four walls were closing in fast, and I knew I needed to do something. So as soon as I got the 2nd dose of my COVID vaccine, I started planning an escape.
Armed with antibodies, a job that still allowed me to work remotely, and a wanderlusty attitude, I began planning an extended trip to Mexico. Heck, since I had to work from home, I might as well work from home somewhere else. Despite inviting my friends, I ended up traveling solo to Mexico City for a month.
With such an extended time in one place, I began searching side-trips and booking activities for my long weekends in town. One month, 4 lodgings, 2 flights, 2 bus rides, one top-10 tasting menu, and hundreds of thousands of steps later, I returned home to NYC -- glad to be in my own bed, but missing everything about my time in Mexico.
I enjoyed leisurely exploration of this new (old) metropolis, and with so much to see, do, and eat, I didn’t come close to hitting everything on my list but came away with some fantastic memories and meals.
