MARKETING + ADVERTISING + PRODUCTION

The level of logistics and planning that went into this trip, and how it all almost fell apart in the end, makes this compulsive planner never want to plan ahead ever again. Google Flights was (no joke) my best friend in making Copenhagen happen.

Our summer break was planned to bring together six friends - 5 from New York and one working in Burma. We planned to travel in the middle of the Burma contract to give her a nice break and so we could all see each other in good time while she was living the expat life.

Finding a destination that flies nonstop from New York and is within 1 stop from Burma on a Star Alliance carrier is a tall order without about 10 total destination options. We finally narrowed it down to a locale we

(a) had not visited

(b) was pseudo affordable

(c) we truly wanted to visit

That place was Denmark.

After the months-long struggle to just choose a destination, our crew slowly started to dwindle. Serious illness and injury prevented two from booking a ticket, and we almost lost another the week before departure due to a Russian-bottled-water related food poisoning trauma. A few hours before we left for the airport, she confirmed she could make it, and three of us were off.

Over the five days of exploration, cocktail bars, charcuterie, and genetically modified mermaids, the home of Hans, Hamlet, and hygge stole my heart. My experience there with my closest friends spawned a bank full of memories and my second trip to Scandi really nailed the feeling of home (and hygge) that the region gives me.
